This month in Malawi ….

Life is tough in the rural areas, hunger is increasing, inflation soaring, and a fuel crisis is crippling the country, but we continue to help…

The good news is the annual rains have begun so villagers are thankful and urgently planting seeds. However, the downside is that with the rains, came fierce storms ripping off roofs, flooding whole areas, and one of our elderlies lost her daughter in a lightning strike.

But we continue to help quietly in the background….

This month our Irrigation Veg Project started again, with 50 families collecting seeds, watering cans, and cassava cuttings. Hundreds more tree seeds were sown—the quick-germinating varieties that will be ready to distribute by the end of the year. Compost pits are being rotated.

Our cash-for-work programme continues, enabling the able-bodied a little paid work.  This month all beneficiaries taking part in this scheme did so to buy food – a sobering reflection of the level of hunger.

Both Elderlies’ Luncheons in November were thoroughly appreciated by 60 elderly folk, enjoying a nutritious meal & happy social time, and 80 vulnerable families were thankful to receive Food Tokens of maize and soya meals.

We repaired 6 borehole pumps, restoring safe water to over 3,500 people, replaced a couple more roofs, and supplied plastic sheeting for others. Ultra-frail infants were given baby formula and we increased our schools’ student list, paying the fees, buying uniforms and providing sani-wear to our girls.
