Help in Hunger

Yesterday, more than 450 families (about 2,000 people) received soap and maize from our 2 distribution points in rural Malawi. It’s the “hunger period” so these meals are life-changing for many.

Melita, shown here, represents just one of those households. Poised and patient, she waited her turn even though she and her family hadn’t eaten for 2 days. Now they, and thousands of others, have food for the next few weeks at least!

Back in June we bought in 30 tonnes of maize, each kilo checked and winnowed by hand then packed in our special grain bags to minimise weevil damage.

As hunger escalated, the first distribution took place just before Christmas to help many celebrate the season with a meal, and the 3rd will happen at the end of February helping beneficiaries towards the next maize harvest in March/April.
