Chickens, eggs & income ....

It’s the “hunger period” in Malawi—food is scarce and increasingly expensive. So we help with chickens ....

Most of the recipients of poultry on this programme are elderly, frail or acutely vulnerable, probably unable to work, so the gift of chickens is the gift of food — protein-rich eggs and meat — and income from selling the surplus.

It’s a “pass-on” programme so two hens and a cockerel are given, and when they reproduce, 2 hen chicks and a young cockerel are required to be passed on to another vulnerable family — eventually building community flocks as small businesses as well as a valuable, steady food supply.

60 more chickens were given out during January — 20 more families impacted with the means to step out of hunger.
