Still to build are the chicken kholas, a home for the male goats, Visitors’
accommodation and security walls.

Additionally, during the  next trip - (Sept/Oct 2009), we need to plaster & point the current buildings to weather-proof them ready for the the torrential rains starting November.

It’s been a battle to build.  An earlier unfinished version collapsed in the rains while we were away, and the builder vanished.  It’s been threatened by the unknown positioning of the new road, and rock-blasting locally.

But it has now been carefully rebuilt by a hoard of local craftsmen, and stands, a key resource for this area, almost finished.

Perhaps the biggest innovation this trip was constructing the Training Hall, generously donated by IATP
(The International Agricultural Training Programme).
Here we will not only offer courses in agriculture, manure making, and animal husbandry, but also Life Skills Development, and hopefully used as a Youth Centre... and  that’s just for starters!

On the left - the house where we welcome visitors and live when we’re in Malawi
On the right - are our immediate neighbours’ houses and land.
In the middle - part of our unfinished outer wall - we need urgent help to complete  this all around the site.
Usually, in Malawi, a piece of land which is to be developed is surrounded first of all by a security wall. We weren’t able to do this, because at relatively short notice we had to vacate our rented accommodation, and we considered housing for the livestock, and caring for the vulnerable, a higher priority for our resources.

We welcome all to our site, but to ensure the safety of our animals, crops, staff and visitors, we need to complete the outer wall.
This is the rear of our Chiringa site -
